When can you catch plaice in the UK?

Plaice are most commonly caught by shore anglers between March and September as they spend the colder winter months in deeper water far out at sea where they spawn. When the sea temperature begins to warm up in the spring plaice move into shallower inshore water and within range of the shore angler.

What size hooks for plaice fishing?

Always use fine wired, but strong Kamasan B940 Aberdeen type hooks. Plaice have small mouths and these hooks are the best design suited to the way plaice feed. If you’re missing bites and suspect these are plaice, then drop down to size 4 or even 6 hooks.
