What is CF flange?

What is CF flange?

The CF flange (originally called ConFlat) is a sexless design where both flanges are identical. The seal mechanism is a knife-edge that is machined below the flange’s flat surface. As the bolts of a flange-pair are tightened, the knife-edges make annular grooves on each side of a soft metal gasket.

How does a CF flange work?

CF (ConFlat) flanges use an oxygen-free high thermal conductivity copper gasket and knife-edge flange to achieve an ultrahigh vacuum seal. Each face of the two mating CF flanges has a knife edge, which cuts into the softer metal gasket, providing an extremely leak-tight, metal-to-metal seal.

What is a ConFlat fitting?

ConFlat (CF) fittings are flanges that use –metal seals to achieve vacuum conditions. The combination of a copper gasket (OFHC) and a stainless steel knife-edge flange makes for an almost impenetrable vacuum barrier. This guarantees a strong and uniform seal across the copper gaskets.

What is an ISO flange?

ISO HV Flanges (also called Large ISO) have a sexless design and are made from 304L stainless or aluminum. Each flange face is counter-bored or grooved to receive a metal centering ring with an elastomeric o-ring around its O.D. As with KF, the ISO centering ring both aligns the flanges and holds the o-ring in place.

What are the different types of flanges?

Most commonly used flanges are weld neck flange, slip on flange, blind flange, socket weld flange, threaded flange and lap joint flange (RTJ Flange). This type of connection in a pipe flange allows for ease of disassembly and separation for repair and regular maintenance.

What is KF clamp?

These machined clamps and cast clamps are used (in conjunction with a centering ring with fitted o-ring) for mating KF flanges. The KF (QF) flange is used for through- or foreline vacuum plumbing and for simple HV chamber ports.

What are vacuum fittings?

Vacuum fittings are flanged vacuum components comprised of a fixed flange on one end of a tube, or a fixed flange on one end and a rotatable flange (on CF flanged assemblies) on the other end of a tube. This rotatable vacuum flange eliminates bolt-hole alignment issues with mating fittings or flanges.

What does DN and PN mean?

Nominal diameter (DN) and nominal pressure (PN)

What size flange should I use when pumping?

If your nipple measures 16 mm in diameter, your recommended breast shield size is 21 mm. This is because the 21 mm shield fits nipples up to 17 mm in diameter. If your nipple diameter measures 24 mm, your recommended size would be 30 mm.

What is NW25?

Vacuum Fittings in size NW25/QF25/KF25 and ISO25. This is a modular snap together approach to assembling any vacuum fittings systems. Pumps connecting to just about any equipment. Good for use with pumps and systems to 1×10-6 Torr. …

What are the different types of ConFlat flanges?

ConFlat flanges are offered in four versions: Fixed flange: is a one piece design where the bolt-hole orientation is fixed with respect to that fitting. Rotatable flange: is comprised of two parts, an inner weld ring and outer bolt ring.

Which is the most widely used high vacuum flange?

The CF (ConFlat) flange is the most widely used for high vacuum and UHV applications. Many gauges, instruments, accessories and feedthroughs are available on this flange system.

What’s the difference between a fixed and rotatable flange?

Rotatable flange: is comprised of two parts, an inner weld ring and outer bolt ring. This enables the bolt ring to rotate about the inner weld ring. Both Fixed and Rotatable flanges are available with your choice of through (clearance) holes or tapped holes.
