What tubes can replace EL34?

What tubes can replace EL34?

EL34, 6CA7 and KT77 are all drop-in replacement of each other. You can use 6CA7 or KT77 in place of EL34. Electrically, they are the same. Now, with that out of the way, there is a fair amount of difference in how these tubes sound.

Are EL34 and KT77 interchangeable?

It’s still possible to find every version of these tubes, and they are all interchangeable. The original EL34 tubes will bring out the midrange frequencies, and they will help give you that classic Marshall tone. The 6CA7 and the KT77 tubes have a much deeper and more open sound with a cleaner high end.

What is the difference between EL34 and EL34B?

I think you will find EL34 is the original copyright title from Mullard and other manufacturers back in the day when production was good and EL34B is the new build version. EL34s as NOS cost an arm and a leg and EL34Bs from China/Eastern Block, are relatively cheap. They are basically similar in performance.

Can I use EL34 instead of 6L6?

You do have to change the resistors. EL34 is way different for bias voltage than 6L6. 6L6 is going to be about -54VDC.

Are 6V6 and EL34 tubes interchangeable?

The general answer is no, for the most part, 6L6 and 6v6 tubes are not interchangeable as they don’t bias close enough. Amps are calibrated to use specific valves (6v6, 6L6, EL84, etc.) In simple words, it can be said that one 6L6 tube requires the same electrical space as 2 6V6 tubes.

What’s the difference between EL34 and 6L6?

6L6 Tubes – FAQ & Buyer’s Guide! If you think about the classic EL341 guitar tone, an EL34 guitar tone is a particularly British guitar tone. 6L6’s are much less scooped from an EQ point of view. They have a much more flat frequency response.

Can EL34 replace 6V6?

I wouldn’t use a 6V6 in place of an EL34, because it might not survive very long. Two better choices would be KT77 or 6CA7. Even if you swap out EL34 for EL34 tubes, re-biasing is highly recommended as cheap insurance against nasty, deadly side effects of imbalance or overload.
